Reason for Nomination:

Tommy Dyson began work as a Traffic Sign and Signal Worker with the City of Waycross on December 4, 1996.  Tommy is currently Traffic Technician Crew Leader within the Engineering Department.

Tommy Dyson is nominated for Employee of the Month for his on-going performance as traffic crew leader and in particular, for leadership displayed during the on-going traffic superintendent vacancy.  He managed all traffic operations, single-handedly, throughout the month with 2 of the 3 authorized positions vacant.

He implemented detour and traffic control measures on short-notice during a series of road repairs with minimum traffic disruption—this proved particularly critical on a high-volume portion of Coral Road.

He received praise from numerous city leaders for his rehabilitation of cast-aluminum street signs in the historic downtown district.  His initiative in restoring these signs in-house yielded thousands of dollars of contract cost-avoidance.

On several occasions, Tommy responded to emergency dispatches to repair damaged or inoperable signal heads, most recently restoring service and eliminating imminent traffic safety hazards during a severe storm event when signals sustained significant wind damage.

He blocked city streets and employed traffic control measures in support several after-hours special events including Waycross Firebird football games.

He helped move forward a signal pre-emption project at Corridor Z and George Street for our fire first-responders by collecting field measurements for an antenna mount permit with Georgia Power.

All of the foregoing were achieved while sustaining a multitude of routine sign and signal maintenance activities.  Tommy Dyson has been a traffic department workhorse with many years of faithful service.  He is a valuable asset to our department and well deserving of this recognition.
